The Black Keys are an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2010s. The band's raw blues rock sound draws heavily from Auerbach's blues influences, including Junior Kimbrough, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson.
Over the years, The Black Keys have released multiple critically acclaimed albums, including the breakthrough record "Brothers" in 2010, which won three Grammy Awards and contained the hit single "Tighten Up". Their seventh studio album, "El Camino" (2011), received significant airplay with songs like "Lonely Boy" and "Gold on the Ceiling", leading to their first arena tour. The duo's eighth album, "Turn Blue" (2014), saw them exploring more psychedelic territory. After a five-year hiatus, they came back with a more stripped-down, bluesy sound on "Let's Rock" (2019). The band continued to pay homage to their blues influences with the covers album "Delta Kream" (2021). Their latest release, "Dropout Boogie" (2022), demonstrates the band's consistent ability to evolve, while still maintaining the raw, powerful essence that has defined their success for over two decades.
