DJIWO

DJIWO is a black metal band from Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, formed in 2013. Initially led by Dewadji Ratriarkha and Fancy Burn, the group has gone through changes in its lineup over the years. The name "Djiwo" means "soul" or "spirit" in an older form of the Indonesian language. Known for their thematic use of masks, such as topeng (mask) and tengkorak (skull), they embody a distinctive style within the black metal genre. Their discography includes notable albums like "Cakra Bhirawa" (2014) and "Svvanantaka" (2023), with the latter marking a shift towards Melodic Folk Raw Black Metal. The band is currently active as a duo, with members using monikers "D" for vocals and "I" for musical composition.

In recent years, DJIWO has explored a blend of folk elements in their music, as seen in their latest work. The band remains part of Indonesia's vibrant metal scene, contributing unique narratives and sounds to the global black metal community. Despite their evolving style, DJIWO continues to maintain its roots in Indonesian folklore and mythology, enriching their black metal sound with distinct cultural elements.
