Kjetil Løndal

Kjetil Løndal (1907–1987) was a renowned Norwegian folk musician, particularly known for his mastery of the hardingfele, a traditional Norwegian fiddle. Born in Tuddal, Telemark, he grew up surrounded by folk music, with his father, Svein Løndal, being a significant musical influence. Kjetil was both a concert and dance musician, celebrated for his technical and musical performances of lydarslåttar and lively dance tunes. He played a crucial role in promoting Norwegian folk music and dance, performing with various dance groups across Europe and participating in notable events like the show "Dans ropte fela," which toured North America in 1960.

Kjetil Løndal was also a skilled fiddle maker and repairer, often visiting renowned craftsmen to hone his skills. He was musically active throughout his life, never having a period without playing. He was a frequent performer on Norwegian radio, recording over 200 slåttar, and won several awards, including the Landskappleik competition multiple times. His legacy includes being a leader in folk music organizations and a respected teacher who enjoyed mentoring young musicians.
