Heretic is a classic power/thrash metal band formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California. The band was founded by guitarist Brian Korban, who also designed the band's logo and conceived the cover art for their albums. Initially, the lineup included Mike Torres on vocals, Scott Patton on bass, Rick Halpin on guitar, and Rick Merrick on drums. Over time, the band underwent lineup changes, with notable members including Julian Mendez on vocals, Robert Marquez on guitar, and Dennis O'Hara on bass. Heretic gained attention in the LA music scene and was signed by Metal Blade Records, releasing the EP "Torture Knows No Boundary" in 1986 and the LP "Breaking Point" in 1988. Heretic reformed in 2011 with a new lineup featuring Julian Mendez, Glenn Rogers, Angelo Espino, and Ignazio Coppola, maintaining their classic metal style.
The band's music is characterized by its blend of power and thrash metal, drawing influences from iconic bands like Metal Church, Reverend, and old Metallica, with nods to Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Motorhead. Their recent lineup continues to uphold this classic sound, with a focus on solid songwriting and top-notch musicianship.
