Gary Lucas
Gary Lucas is the guitar wizard you want at your experimental music jam session. Best known for his work as the last lead guitarist in Captain Beefheart's Magic Band (1980-1982), this New York-based artist has spent decades bending genres like a sonic contortionist. After Beefheart retired, Lucas became Jeff Buckley's early collaborator, co-writing classics like "Grace" and "Mojo Pin" while Buckley crashed on his couch. His recent releases – from the Wagnerian guitar fireworks of *Fantasia on the Overture to The Flying Dutchman* to swampy live jams like *Swamp T'ing* – prove he's still the king of "what if we tried THIS?" musical experiments. Whether scoring Chinese silent films, jamming with Hungarian folk bands, or resurrecting Beefheart's spirit in live shows, Lucas treats his guitar like a multidimensional paintbrush.
