Norberto "Beto" Quintanilla Iracheta, known professionally as Beto Quintanilla, was a Mexican regional singer and songwriter born in 1948. He gained fame as "El Mero León del Corrido" (The Top Lion of the Corrido) for his contributions to the corrido genre, particularly narcocorridos. Quintanilla's career spanned several decades, during which he released numerous albums and became known for his unique, scratchy voice and vivid storytelling through his lyrics.
Quintanilla's journey in music began in his hometown of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, where he started writing songs for local musicians. Despite having no formal musical training, he eventually caught the attention of record executive Ruben Polanco, who encouraged him to perform his own material. This led to a successful recording career that lasted until his death from a heart attack on March 18, 2007, in Reynosa.
