Ted Egan

Ted Egan AO is an acclaimed Australian folk musician and bush balladeer known for his baritone voice and for playing the beer can (fosterphone), which has become his trademark instrument. Born on July 6, 1932, in Melbourne, Egan has spent much of his life in the Northern Territory where his appreciation for the Outback and its diverse cultures has deeply influenced his music and storytelling. He has had a long and varied career, not just as a musician, but also as an educator, writer, and television presenter, highlighting the history and tales of Australia's remote regions.

Over the years, Egan has released numerous albums that reflect his profound connection to Australia's land, heritage, and people. Among his more recent works are "The Paragon Cafe," a testament to the cultural melting pot found within these iconic Australian establishments, and "Foundation Day," which likely pays tribute to the historical foundations of Australia. In his song "Come in Spinner: A Tribute to Shane Warne," he celebrates the life of the legendary Australian cricketer, while "The Drover's Boy - A Celebration of Australian Women" honors the often-overlooked contributions of women in Australia's pastoral history. His dedication to storytelling and his ability to weave narratives through his music have earned Egan a respected position as a chronicler of Australian life and an endearing figure within the country's musical landscape.
