São Paulo Underground is a boundary-pushing musical project led by Chicago-based cornetist Rob Mazurek, in collaboration with Brazilian musicians Mauricio Takara and Guilherme Granado. Blending elements of avant-garde jazz, Brazilian rhythms, electronic textures, and improvisation, the group creates a vibrant, experimental soundscape that feels both deeply rooted and futuristic. Their music often channels the energetic spirit of São Paulo’s rich cultural scene, while also exploring abstract sonic territories.
Since forming in the mid-2000s, São Paulo Underground has released several adventurous albums, including Sauna: Um, Dois, Três and Saturno Mágico. Their work reflects Mazurek’s long-standing fascination with Brazilian music and culture, sparked by his frequent stays in Brazil. With a playful yet intense approach, São Paulo Underground continues to blur the lines between genres, offering a truly global and innovative musical experience.
