aKING

aKING is a South African rock band with a melodic, alternative rock sound that has carved a prominent niche in the local music landscape. Formed in 2007, the band was quick to capture attention with their debut album, "Dutch Courage," released in 2008, which showcased their mix of earnest storytelling and catchy choruses. The group, hailing from Bellville, Cape Town, was originally composed of members Hunter Kennedy and Jaco 'Snakehead' Venter, both also members of the punk band Fokofpolisiekar, with Laudo Liebenberg on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Hennie van Halen on bass.

Their subsequent releases, such as "Against All Odds" (2009) and "The Red Blooded Years" (2011), along with its Special Edition, continued to solidify aKING's status as a stronghold in the South African rock genre. The band's style evolved over the years but consistently maintained strong storytelling with an emotive edge, which resonated with a wide audience. Hits from these albums, along with later releases like "Morning After" and "In the Twilight," have contributed to aKING's reputation as a band that injects heartfelt lyricism with potent hooks, ensuring a dedicated fan base and a lasting influence in the South African music scene.
