Avail

Avail, an influential punk rock band hailing from Richmond, Virginia, forged their unique sound in the early 1990s, which quickly positioned them as a noteworthy force within the punk community. The ensemble originally formed in 1987, with their lineup eventually stabilizing around vocalist Tim Barry, guitarist Joe Banks, bassist Gwomper, drummer Ed Trask, and Beau Beau Butler on backing vocals and energetic live presence. Known for their raucous, high-energy performances and the impassioned, raspy vocals of Barry, Avail's sound encompasses a blend of hardcore punk energy and melodic elements, earning them a dedicated fanbase.

Throughout their career, Avail released several albums that became cornerstones in the punk rock scene. "Satiate" (1992) was their first official release, setting the stage for the albums that would cement their legacy in the punk subculture. "Dixie" (1994) and "4AM Friday" (1996) continued to build upon their compelling, anthemic punk sound, with "Over The James" (1998) considered by many to be a genre classic. In the years that followed, "One Wrench" (2000) and "Front Porch Stories" (2002) demonstrated the band's consistent ability to merge personal storytelling with a politically charged edge. Avail also showcased their dynamic live performances with "V.M.Live Presents Avail 6/29/97," capturing the raw intensity and connection with their audience that have long defined their shows. Despite going on hiatus in the mid-2000s, Avail's influence persisted, and they reunited for several shows in recent years, thrilling longtime fans and sparking interest for a new generation of punk enthusiasts.
