The Beethoven Quartet

**The Beethoven Quartet** was a legendary Soviet string quartet that became one of the most influential chamber groups of the 20th century. The quartet premiered **13 of Shostakovich’s 15 string quartets**, becoming the definitive interpreters of his deeply personal chamber works. Their recordings, like *Shostakovich: The 15 String Quartets* and *Shostakovich Performs, Vol. 1*, capture their raw emotional intensity and technical brilliance. They also worked with pianist Emil Gilels (heard on *Emil Gilels Edition Vol. 2*), blending their fiery style with his powerhouse playing.
