Adult Mom is the brainchild of singer-songwriter and musician Stephanie Knipe, emerging as a significant voice within the indie rock and DIY music scene. Formed in the early 2010s while Knipe was studying at Purchase College, the project began as a solo endeavor but would often perform and record with a rotating cast of musicians. Adult Mom's music is characterized by its blend of tender melodies, lo-fi indie pop textures, and confessional lyrics, through which Knipe explores themes of identity, queerness, and emotional vulnerability.
The band's debut album "Momentary Lapse of Happily" arrived in 2015 to critical acclaim, cementing Adult Mom's reputation for crafting poignant narratives wrapped in warm, accessible soundscapes. This was followed by the introspective full-length "Soft Spots" in 2017 and its accompanying demo release, showcasing the raw underpinnings of their songwriting process. In 2021, Adult Mom released "Driver," further refining their sound with increased clarity and depth, reflecting on growth and personal change. Through emotional resonance and a knack for storytelling, Adult Mom continues to resonate with a growing audience, delivering their reflective lyricism in both live and studio settings, evidenced by albums such as the intimately recorded "Adult Mom on Audiotree Live" and performances like "Jam in the Van - Adult Mom (Live Session)." Their single "Berlin" and the live version of "Driver" from Headroom Studios are the latest testaments to their evolving artistry and expressive power.
