Johann Schop was a German violinist and composer active in the early 17th century. Born around 1590, Schop made a name for himself as a leading musician of his time, particularly admired for his skills on the violin. He spent much of his career in Hamburg, where he served as a musician at the court and became a prominent figure in the city’s musical life. Schop is best known for his instrumental dance music and for his chorales, some of which were later used by composers like J.S. Bach. His energetic and expressive style helped bridge the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, leaving a lasting mark on German church and instrumental music.
