Jan Rot was a Dutch singer-songwriter, musician, and translator born on December 25, 1957, in Makassar, Indonesia. He gained fame in the Netherlands for his numerous translations of songs, both pop and classical. One of his most notable works was a Dutch translation of Bach's St Matthew Passion, which reached the Dutch pop album charts at Easter 2006. Rot continued performing until shortly before his death on April 22, 2022, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2021.
