Solex is the brainchild of Dutch multi-instrumentalist and sample wizard Elisabeth Esselink, who started cooking up her quirky sonic collages in the late '90s. Formerly co-owning Utrecht's legendary record store Plato (which inspired her alias), Esselink became known for chopping up obscure vinyl finds into playful indie-electronic mosaics. Her early albums like *Low Kick and Hard Bop* and *Pick Up* turned thrift store grooves into wonky pop adventures, earning her a cult following for their off-kilter charm. Over the years, she’s embraced everything from collaborative experiments (like the *In The Fishtank* session with garage-rockers The Ex) to conceptual projects like *Solex Ahoy! The Sound Map of the Netherlands*, which transformed field recordings into a musical travelogue. Whether remixing tracks or crafting geeky bleep-and-blip symphonies, Solex keeps things delightfully unpredictable – like a DJ at a robot carnival armed with a soldering iron and a sense of humor.
