Hui Ohana

Hui Ohana, translating to "Family Group" from Hawaiian, is heralded as one of the most significant traditional Hawaiian music groups that graced the 1970s and beyond with their melodious presence. Comprising of Ledward Kaapana along with his twin brother Nedward and their cousin Dennis Pavao, these musicians came from the small rural area of Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawaii, which is embedded in their musical identity. Their signature sound, characterized by intricate slack-key guitar work and seamless three-part vocal harmonies, captured the essence of Hawaii's heart and soul.

With albums such as "Young Hawaii Plays Old Hawaii," the group rekindled and preserved the classic sounds of their home state, earning them a timeless spot in the lineage of Hawaiian music. Their affection for tradition combined with a genuine family bond allowed them to deliver performances that were both authentic and mesmerizing. Albums like "From Kalapana to Waikiki" and the lively "Live at Sounds of Hawaii Studios" showcase their dynamic ability to connect audiences to the vibrant stories and emotions rooted in the island’s culture. "Hana Hou," capturing the 'one more time' spirit of encore performances, and "Ke Kolu," meaning 'the trio,' highlight the delightful synergy among the members, making Hui Ohana a cornerstone of Hawaiian musical heritage.
