Lula Côrtes

Lula Côrtes was a Brazilian musician, poet, and visual artist known for his pioneering role in the country's psychedelic and experimental music scene during the 1970s. Hailing from Recife, in the northeastern state of Pernambuco, Côrtes blended local folk traditions with psychedelia, creating a distinctly tropical and mystical sound. He's perhaps best known for his collaboration with Zé Ramalho on the 1975 cult classic album Paêbirú, a sprawling, otherworldly work inspired by indigenous legends, regional rhythms, and psychedelic rock.

In addition to Paêbirú, Lula Côrtes released solo albums like Rosa de Sangue, which continued exploring his unique fusion of northeastern Brazilian culture and experimental sounds. Throughout his career, he remained an influential figure in the Brazilian underground, celebrating the rich traditions of his homeland while pushing musical boundaries.
