These New Puritans

These New Puritans are an English experimental music group whose work merges an eclectic range of influences, from electronic music to orchestral arrangements, and from post-punk to minimalist classical sounds. The band was formed in 2006 in Southend-on-Sea by twin brothers George Barnett and Jack Barnett, along with their friends Thomas Hein and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson. Known for their ambitious and enigmatic soundscapes, These New Puritans quickly distinguished themselves within the indie music scene with a sound that defies easy categorization.

The band first captured critical attention with their debut album "Beat Pyramid" in 2008, but it was with their sophomore effort, "Hidden" (2010), that they achieved widespread acclaim for its bold mix of percussive rhythms, brass instrumentation, and choral effects. This album marked the beginning of a transformative journey in the band's artistic output. Over the next decade, These New Puritans continued to evolve, with major works like "Field of Reeds" (2013), showcasing a more austere and abstract approach, and "Inside The Rose" (2019), which presented a lush, dark, and romantic sound. Their most recent releases, including "The Cut (2016-2019)" and an expanded live version of their music performed at the Barbican, reflect the band's continual reinvention and the intricate, multi-faceted nature of their artistry. With each album and project, These New Puritans have reaffirmed their status as one of the most innovative and unpredictable bands of their generation.
