White Stones

White Stones is a progressive death metal band formed by Martín Méndez, best known as the longtime bassist of Opeth. Founded as a creative outlet outside of Opeth, White Stones showcases Méndez’s love for death metal with a unique blend of groove, atmosphere, and technical precision. The project debuted in 2020 with the album Kuarahy (which means “Sun” in Guarani, a nod to Méndez's Uruguayan heritage), offering a rich mix of crushing riffs and moody melodies.

Following the well-received debut, White Stones continued to evolve with their follow-up album Dancing into Oblivion in 2021, further exploring introspective themes and dynamic songwriting. In 2024, the band returned with Memoria Viva, incorporating Spanish lyrics for the first time and deepening their connection to Méndez’s cultural roots. Bringing together groove-laden death metal with progressive elements and expressive atmospheres, White Stones carves out a distinct sound that sets them apart in the modern metal scene.
