Larry Levan

Larry Levan was a legendary DJ and music producer best known for his influential residency at New York City's Paradise Garage during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern dance music, Levan's eclectic style blended disco, soul, gospel, and early electronic sounds in a way that forever changed the club scene. His innovative use of sound systems and deep, emotional mixes earned him a cult following and helped set the foundation for the evolution of house and garage music.

Levan was also a talented remixer, reworking tracks with a signature touch that brought new life to songs from artists like Gwen Guthrie, Taana Gardner, and Loose Joints. Many of his remixes, including those on "The Sleeping Bag Sessions" and the reissued edits of "Changes" and "A.I.E.," continue to be celebrated by DJs and dance music fans alike. Though he passed away in 1992, Larry Levan’s legacy lives on through his groundbreaking contributions to club culture and the sound of modern dance music.
