Erkan Ocaklı

Erkan Ocaklı was a renowned Turkish musician, born in 1949 in Trabzon, with roots in the Arhavi and Laz communities. He was a prominent figure in Karadeniz folk music, known for his unique interpretations and original compositions. Ocaklı began his musical journey playing the bağlama and was discovered by Harika Plak in Unkapanı. He gained popularity in the 1970s, becoming the voice of Karadeniz migrants. Throughout his career, he released over 40 albums and composed more than 350 songs, often incorporating Laz and Rumca dialects into his music. Erkan Ocaklı passed away on November 16, 2008, after battling pancreatic cancer.

Ocaklı's music spanned a wide range of genres, from traditional folk to more contemporary styles like disco, as seen in songs like "Burun Disko." He collaborated with notable artists and performed at various venues, including the Tepebaşı Gazinosu and Samsun Fuarı. Despite the rise of other genres in the 1980s, Ocaklı remained true to his regional roots, continuing to produce music that celebrated his cultural heritage. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike.
