Göttinger Barockorchester

Founded in 1995 by violinist Hans-Henning Vater, the Göttinger Barockorchester (Göttingen Baroque Orchestra) quickly became a standout in northern Germany's early music scene. Vater, who still serves as concertmaster, brings a passion for both Baroque and modern violin performance, and the orchestra's members are all specialists, many playing with other leading period ensembles. What really sets the group apart is their commitment to stylistic diversity: their repertoire stretches over four centuries, from early Baroque masters like Monteverdi and Schütz through the great choral and instrumental works of Bach, Handel, and Telemann, right up to symphonies by Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, and even contemporary pieces and world premieres.

The orchestra is known for its flexible lineup—sometimes performing as a chamber group, sometimes expanding to symphonic proportions—and for playing on historical instruments, with technique tailored to each era. Their dedication to authenticity and adventurous programming has earned them a loyal following, and they regularly collaborate with other ensembles and artists in concert and on recordings. Whether it's passionate Baroque concertos, grand choral works, or cutting-edge new music, the Göttinger Barockorchester brings energy, expertise, and a refreshingly broad perspective to every performance.
