Sottotono

Sottotono were pioneers of Italy's hip-hop scene, bursting onto the scene in the mid-'90s with their signature blend of laid-back beats, jazzy samples, and sharp rhymes. Formed in Bologna by rapper Tormento (Luca Mascia) and producer Fish (Federico “Deda” Vaccari), the duo dropped their debut *Sotto effetto stono* in 1995, quickly becoming voices of a generation with tracks like "Originali" and "La mia coccinella." Their 1996 sophomore album *Sotto lo stesso effetto* solidified their legacy, mixing clever wordplay with social commentary and funk grooves that made Italian rap feel both fresh and authentically homegrown. Though they disbanded in 2001, their influence lingers – evidenced by collabs with heavyweights like Guè and Marracash on 2021’s revamped "Solo lei ha quel che voglio," proving their vibe still hits decades later.
