1st Battalion Irish Guards
1st Battalion Irish Guards is a British Army infantry battalion that serves as the senior infantry battalion of the Irish Guards. The battalion was formed in 1900 and has a long and distinguished history, having served in both World Wars and the Falklands War. Today, the battalion is based in Aldershot, Hampshire, and is responsible for public duties in London, including guarding Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace. The battalion is also a highly trained and experienced fighting force, and has deployed on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
