Colosseum

Colosseum is a British progressive jazz-rock band formed in 1968 by drummer Jon Hiseman, tenor sax player Dick Heckstall-Smith, and bass player Tony Reeves. The band's original lineup also included Dave Greenslade on organ and guitarists Jim Roche and James Litherland. They made their live debut at the Scene Two club in Scarborough and gained exposure through BBC Radio One's Top Gear program. Their first album, *Those Who Are About to Die Salute You*, was released in 1969, followed by *Valentyne Suite*, which was the first release on the Vertigo label. Over the years, Colosseum has undergone several lineup changes, including the addition of vocalist Chris Farlowe and guitarist Clem Clempson. The band disbanded in 1971 but reunited in 1993 and has continued to tour and release music, including their recent studio album *Restoration* in 2022.

Colosseum's music combines elements of jazz and rock, showcasing their unique blend of saxophone-driven melodies and complex instrumental arrangements. Despite the passing of Jon Hiseman in 2018, the band continues to perform with a new lineup featuring Chris Farlowe, Clem Clempson, Mark Clarke, Kim Nishikawara, Nick Steed, and Malcolm Mortimore. Their recent releases include several live albums, highlighting their enduring legacy in the progressive rock scene.
