Khalil Abdul-Rahman Hazzard, professionally known as DJ Khalil, is a Grammy-award winning hip-hop and soul music producer from Los Angeles, California. His journey in music began as a teenager when he discovered DJing and production, and he famously met his idol Dr. Dre at just 13 years old, telling him he'd become a producer like him—a promise he'd go on to keep. After years of honing his craft with his underground hip-hop duo Self Scientific alongside rapper Chace Infinite, Khalil caught Dr. Dre's attention and was signed as an in-house producer to Aftermath Records, where he developed his production skills working with some of hip-hop's biggest names.
Over his 20+ year career, DJ Khalil has become one of the most prolific and respected producers in the industry, with five Grammy Awards to his name and production credits spanning across icons like Eminem, Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and countless others. His West Coast roots combined with influences from both coasts' rich hip-hop history have shaped his eclectic sound, allowing him to seamlessly blend different genres and work across hip-hop, R&B, and beyond. From his early breakthrough producing tracks on Eminem's *Recovery* album to more recent work like Jon Batiste's Grammy-winning album and Kanye West's "Hurricane," Khalil has consistently delivered hits while also expanding into film scores, television placements, and video game soundtracks.
