Acid House

Acid house is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by its use of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer, which produces distinctive, psychedelic squelching sounds. Emerging in the late 1980s in the UK, acid house evolved from the fusion of Chicago's deep house and Detroit's techno, with influences from psychedelic rock and hip-hop. The genre's defining features include repetitive beats, often at 120-130 BPM, minimalistic melodies, and experimental sound design. Acid house's popularity peaked during the "Summer of Love" in 1988-89, with its ecstatic, hedonistic vibe capturing the spirit of the era's rave culture. As a key component of the UK's acid house movement, the genre's impact extended beyond music, influencing fashion, art, and social attitudes. Acid house's relationship to other genres, such as techno and trance, lies in its emphasis on rhythm and texture, while its unique blend of psychedelia and futurism sets it apart from other styles of electronic dance music.
