Acid Techno

Acid techno is a high-energy, psychedelic genre characterized by its reliance on the Roland TB-303 synthesizer, which generates squelchy, acidic basslines and hypnotic melodies. Emerging in the late 1980s, acid techno evolved from the intersection of Chicago acid house, Detroit techno, and European rave culture. The genre reached its peak popularity in the 1990s, particularly in the UK and Germany's underground club scenes. Acid techno's cultural significance lies in its ability to induce a sense of frenetic energy and communal euphoria, often featuring minimalist, repetitive beats, and experimental sound design. While closely related to techno and trance, acid techno's distinctive use of the TB-303 and emphasis on psychedelic textures set it apart.
