Bandolim
Bandolim is a Brazilian-rooted instrumental genre centered on the bandolim (mandolin), prized for its bright, percussive attack and agile, singing melodic lines. Drawing heavily from choro traditions, it features intricate counterpoint, fast runs, syncopated grooves, and conversational interplay with guitarra/violão, cavaquinho, pandeiro, and “regional” ensembles. While often virtuosic—showcasing dazzling tremolo, crisp articulation, and improvisation—it can also be lyrical and songlike, moving between samba, baião, frevo, and jazz-inflected harmonies. The result is music that feels both streetwise and sophisticated: rhythmic, ornate, and deeply melodic.
