Cello

“Cello” as a genre centers the cello as both voice and engine: a spectrum that runs from intimate, resonant solo playing to layered ensembles and amplified, riff-driven crossover. It draws on classical technique—long singing lines, rich vibrato, and deep lyrical phrasing—while embracing extended techniques (harmonics, percussive bowing, drones), looping, and studio effects that can make one instrument sound orchestral or electronic. Many artists push beyond concert repertoire into minimalist soundscapes, folk-inflected melody, and even metal-like intensity, using the cello’s wide range to shift effortlessly from warm bass foundations to soaring lead lines.
