Dubstep

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by its heavy, bass-driven soundscapes, complex rhythms, and often, atmospheric sound design. Emerging in South London in the late 1990s, dubstep evolved from UK garage and drum and bass, influenced by dub and reggae. By the mid-2000s, the genre gained popularity, particularly among young people, for its dark, edgy sound and experimental production techniques. Dubstep's cultural significance lies in its role as a catalyst for the broader EDM (electronic dance music) movement, influencing a wide range of subsequent genres, including trap and future bass.
