Musically, it distinguishes itself by down-tuned guitars, heavily distorted and low-pitched grunt-like vocals known as "gutturals" or "pig squeals," and a relentless pace with blast beat drumming. The tempo can vary from grindingly slow to frenetically fast, providing an aggressive and often chaotic soundscape. Bands such as Carcass and Regurgitate pioneered the style, employing gore-laden imagery and a raw, visceral sound that pushes the boundaries of taste and musical brutality, creating an intense and confrontational auditory experience that is not for the faint of heart.
