Horror Punk

Horror punk is a genre that emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s, characterized by its dark, campy aesthetic and fusion of punk's energy with elements of horror movie soundtracks and classic rockabilly. Musically, horror punk is defined by its fast-paced rhythms, prominent use of distorted guitars, and often, a focus on keyboards or organs to create a spooky, atmospheric sound. Vocals frequently incorporate growls, screams, and other unsettling techniques to enhance the genre's eerie atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from B-movies, Gothic literature, and supernatural folklore, horror punk's cultural significance lies in its celebration of the macabre and the unknown, appealing to fans of the darker side of life. While sharing similarities with psychobilly and gothic rock, horror punk's irreverent, tongue-in-cheek approach sets it apart, often incorporating elements of camp and humor into its music and aesthetic.
