Latin house is a vibrant, high-energy genre that combines the infectious rhythms of Latin music with the electronic beats of house. Characterized by its driving percussion, syncopated rhythms, and often, Spanish or Portuguese vocals, Latin house typically features a mix of traditional instruments like congas, bongos, and timbales alongside synthesized leads and deep, pulsing basslines. Emerging in the 1990s, the genre drew inspiration from salsa, merengue, and Afro-Latin music, fusing these styles with the global club sound of the time. During its peak in the early 2000s, Latin house became a staple of international dancefloors, reflecting the cultural diversity and cosmopolitanism of urban nightlife. Notable for its fusion of global influences, Latin house differentiates itself from similar styles like tropical house and Latin trap through its emphasis on percussive energy and authentic Latin American musical traditions.
