Latin metal is a dynamic fusion of heavy metal's hard-hitting, distortion-amped sound with the rhythmic complexity and vibrant musical motifs characteristic of Latin American music. It embodies an eclectic blend of aggressive guitar riffs and double bass drumming, seamlessly interwoven with percussive elements like congas or timbales, and sometimes incorporates traditional instruments such as the charango. Latin metal bands vary widely in their approach, from Sepultura's thrash and groove metal foundations enriched with indigenous Brazilian music, to Ill Niño's blend of nu-metal with Latin percussion, reflecting the genre's capacity for incorporating a diverse spectrum of Latin-influenced sounds into the metal framework.
