It embodies an eclectic blend of aggressive guitar riffs and double bass drumming, seamlessly interwoven with percussive elements like congas or timbales, and sometimes incorporates traditional instruments such as the charango. The genre often features lyrics in Spanish or Portuguese and explores themes ranging from cultural identity to political and social commentary. Latin metal bands vary widely in their approach, from Sepultura's thrash and groove metal foundations enriched with indigenous Brazilian music, to Ill Niño's blend of nu-metal with Latin percussion, reflecting the genre's capacity for incorporating a diverse spectrum of Latin-influenced sounds into the metal framework.
