Mashup

Mashup music is a genre characterized by the creative combination of two or more pre-existing songs, often from different styles and eras, to produce a new, distinctive sound. Typically, mashups involve the juxtaposition of contrasting melodies, rhythms, and vocal styles, frequently incorporating elements of hip-hop, electronic dance music (EDM), and pop. Emerging in the early 2000s, mashup gained popularity through online communities and underground parties. This genre's cultural significance lies in its ability to subvert traditional notions of musical ownership and creativity, while also showcasing the DJ's or producer's technical skill and musical knowledge.
