Pennsylvania Hardcore
Pennsylvania hardcore, also known as PAHC, is a visceral, energetically-charged subgenre of hardcore punk that embodies the raw emotion and social dissent inherent to its roots, while incorporating elements of punk rock, heavy metal, and thrash. Originating from the vibrant music scenes in cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PAHC is distinguished by its aggressive riffs, rapid-fire drumming, and confrontational vocals. The ethos of the genre emphasizes community, DIY ethics, and the expression of individual and collective struggles. Bands within this scene, such as Malice At The Palace, CDC, and Steel Nation, have contributed to its gritty, unpolished sound and fierce live performances, making Pennsylvania hardcore a bastion of the East Coast hardcore movement.
