Period Performance

Period performance, also known as historically informed performance (HIP), is a genre that seeks to recreate the sound and style of music as it was originally performed. Using historical instruments or replicas, and following performance practices from the time of composition, musicians in this genre aim for authenticity in articulation, ornamentation, and tuning. Ensembles and soloists specializing in period performance often interpret Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic works with a light, transparent texture and dance-like phrasing. This approach offers a vivid, fresh perspective on music by composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart.
