Progressive Sludge

Progressive sludge is a subgenre of heavy metal that combines the aggression and distortion of sludge metal with the complexity and experimentation of progressive rock. Characterized by its use of unusual time signatures, polyrhythms, and extended instrumental passages, progressive sludge often features a mix of screamed and clean vocals, as well as a prominent role for keyboards and synthesizers.
