Slap house is a subgenre of house music characterized by its heavy, bass-driven sound, often featuring distorted kick drums, syncopated rhythms, and catchy melodies. Emerging in the mid-2010s, slap house evolved from the fusion of deep house, tech house, and EDM, with influences from hip-hop and African rhythms. The genre gained popularity around 2020, particularly among younger audiences, and became a staple in electronic dance music festivals and clubs. Slap house is notable for its high-energy beats, often paired with catchy vocal hooks, and its blend of tropical and urban flavors. Unlike other house subgenres, slap house is distinct for its bold, in-your-face sound design and its ability to balance heavy basslines with infectious, sing-along melodies.
