Swedish black metal is a subgenre of black metal music that emerged in Sweden in the early 1990s, characterized by its raw and melodic sound, which often incorporates atmospheric elements and a blend of frenzied aggression with somber tones. Bands like Dissection solidified the genre by incorporating intricate guitar work and melodic harmonies within the traditional high-speed drumming and shrieking vocal style, thus adding a textured sophistication to the visceral intensity of black metal.
