"Touhou" music refers to a style predominantly associated with the Touhou Project, a series of bullet hell shooter games created by the one-man developer Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member is Jun'ya "ZUN" Ota. ZUN's original compositions for the game have inspired a vast and fervent fan base that creates derivative works, including remixes and reinterpretations spanning genres like rock, electronic, classical, and metal. Artists and groups like Yonder Voice, 交響アクティブNEETs, and SOUND HOLIC infuse ZUN's already-catchy melodies with unique musical twists, while maintaining the fantastical and often intense atmosphere that characterizes the Touhou series. The genre has a vibrant presence in the doujin music scene, where fan-made productions are enthusiastically shared within the community, at events such as the semi-annual Comiket in Japan.
