Trap català is a subgenre of trap music that emerged in Catalonia, characterized by its fusion of African-American trap beats with Mediterranean rhythms and melodic sensibilities. The genre is marked by heavy, syncopated drum patterns, often accompanied by minimalist, atmospheric synths and 808 basslines. Vocal styles range from melodic autotune to raw, emotive rap, frequently incorporating Catalan language and slang. Born out of the Catalan underground scene in the mid-2010s, trap català gained mainstream popularity around 2017-2020, reflecting the region's cultural and linguistic identity.
