Characterized by its fusion of reggaeton, Latin trap, and bachata rhythms, urbano latino often features infectious, syncopated beats, prominent use of dembow and 808 drums, and a mix of melodic and rap-style vocals. Born out of the streets of Puerto Rico and Colombia, the genre gained widespread popularity around 2015-2018, with its cultural significance lying in its representation of Latinx identity and experiences.
