Pullman is this killer Chicago-born supergroup that kicked off in 1997 when Tortoise's Ken "Bundy K." Brown and Doug McCombs linked up with Rex's Curtis Harvey and Come's Chris Brokaw to jam on acoustic tunes that didn't fit their main bands. Drummer Tim Barnes hopped in later, rounding out the crew for their dreamy, instrumental post-rock vibes—think folk roots with those swirling guitar builds. They dropped their debut *Turnstyles & Junkpiles* in 1998 on Thrill Jockey, followed by *Viewfinder* in 2001, then went quiet for over two decades while the members kept busy with Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day, and more.
Now, after 25 years, they're back with *III*, set for January 9, 2026 on Western Vinyl—sparked when Barnes shared his early-onset Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2021, pulling the gang together for one last heartfelt session. It's all acoustic precision with hazy edges, tracks like "Weightless" and "Bray" floating in that timeless post-rock space, edited and mixed by Brown. A beautiful tribute from some underground legends.
