Carambolage was one of the pioneering all-female German new wave bands, formed in 1979 in Fresenhagen, Germany. The trio—Britta Neander on drums, Elfie-Esther Steitz, and Angie Olbrich—emerged from the creative environment surrounding the influential Berlin anti-capitalist rock band Ton Steine Scherben. They stood out not just for their gender composition but for their unique sound dubbed the "North Frisian Wave," characterized by a playful, subversive charm and experimental spirit. Britta’s drumming roots and connection to Ton Steine Scherben, as well as the group's desire for musical freedom, fostered a distinctive style that combined punk energy with witty, sometimes cheeky lyrics. Throughout the early 1980s, Carambolage released several albums, including their self-titled debut (1980), *Eilzustellung-Exprès* (1982), and *Bon Voyage* (1984), the latter reflecting a more polished sound. Their work remains a significant chapter in German post-punk and new wave history, highlighting feminist and alternative cultural impulses within music of that era.
