Timothy Long

Timothy Long is a distinguished conductor, pianist, and composer of Muscogee and Choctaw descent, known for his dynamic presence in the world of classical music and opera. He serves as the Artistic and Music Director of Opera at the Eastman School of Music and is an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera. Born in Holdenville, Oklahoma, Long made his piano concerto debut at just 16 with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra and has since performed widely as a soloist and conductor with prominent orchestras and opera companies across the U.S. and internationally. His versatile career includes notable roles such as assistant conductor at the Brooklyn Philharmonic and associate conductor at the New York City Opera, along with conducting engagements at esteemed institutions like Boston Lyric Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and The Juilliard School.

Beyond his impressive professional achievements, Long is deeply connected to his Native American heritage, being an enrolled citizen of both the Muscogee Nation and Thlopthlocco Tribal Town, with Choctaw lineage through his mother. He is also the founding conductor of The Coast Orchestra, an all-Native American ensemble that highlights the rich cultural contributions of Indigenous musicians. Praised for his sharp conducting and vibrant orchestral colors, Long has earned respect both as a musician and cultural ambassador, bridging classical music traditions with Indigenous perspectives.
