Matthew Jay

Matthew Jay was an English singer-songwriter born on October 10, 1978, in Plymouth, England. He grew up in a musical family in Abergavenny, South Wales, where he was influenced by his parents' folk music background and a wide range of artists such as The Beatles and David Bowie. Jay began writing his own songs at the age of 15 and eventually secured a recording contract with EMI's Food Records in 1999. His debut album, *Draw*, was released in 2001 to critical acclaim, drawing comparisons to artists like Nick Drake and Elliott Smith. Jay's music career was marked by his introspective and emotionally charged songwriting style.

After parting ways with EMI in 2002, Jay continued working on new material but tragically passed away on September 25, 2003.
