Pete Ham was a British singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known as the frontman of the power pop band Badfinger. Born in 1947 in Swansea, Wales, Ham was a founding member of The Iveys, who later became Badfinger — the first band signed to The Beatles’ Apple Records label. Along with his bandmates, Ham co-wrote several major hits, including the timeless “No Matter What,” “Day After Day,” and the iconic ballad “Without You,” which later became a global hit for artists like Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey.
Ham was known for his melodic songwriting and soulful vocals, and his songwriting partnership with fellow bandmate Tom Evans was a central force behind Badfinger's success. Despite commercial achievements, Ham's life was tragically cut short in 1975. After his death, fans and fellow musicians continued to celebrate his work through posthumous releases of his demos, like 7 Park Avenue and Golders Green, showcasing his talent and underscoring his lasting impact on pop and rock music.
