Phoebe Rings is a dream-pop band from Auckland, New Zealand, formed in 2019 by jazz-trained pianist and songwriter Crystal Choi. The group quickly became known for its lush, inviting sound—a cosmic blend of introspective lyrics and atmospheric, jazz-infused dream-pop grooves, inspired by everything from Studio Ghibli and 90s Korean ballads to Stereolab and Bossa Nova. With their self-titled debut EP in 2024 and the collaborative, full-length album *Aseurai* scheduled for June 2025, Phoebe Rings have carved out a devoted local following and are celebrated for their warm, eclectic live performances and emotive songwriting.
Originally a solo outlet for Choi’s compositions, Phoebe Rings evolved into a full band collaboration, featuring the talents of Alex Freer (drums), Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent (guitar/synth), and Benjamin Locke (bass). Their music explores themes of hope, longing, and the bittersweet passage of time, capturing tender autobiographical moments and playfully navigating the complexities of modern life in tracks like “Get Up,” “Fading Star,” and “Daisy”. Recorded in studios and homes across Auckland, their upcoming album promises to deliver a fresh, vibrant chapter for this rising indie “supergroup.”
